Portimão has kicked off 2025 with more than two kilometres of new pavements! It is part of its goal to improve pedestrian mobility and promote a more accessible and inclusive city.
Portimão began the year with important urban interventions aimed at improving pedestrian mobility in various areas of the municipality through the construction of more than two kilometres of new pavements. This initiative, part of the ‘Walkable Portimão’ project, aims to make the city more accessible and inclusive, creating ideal conditions for those travelling on foot.

The works cover some of the city’s main arteries, including Quatro Estradas, Rua Jaime Palhinha, Rua D. Martinho Castelo Branco (up to Praia da Rocha), the old EN125 in front of Cabeço do Mocho, Rua Melvin Jones, Rua Nova da Boavista, Avenida do Brasil and Avenida Gil Vicente.
The ‘Walkable Portimão’ project reflects the municipality’s commitment to promoting walking, recognising its relevance to urban mobility and the essential role it plays in people’s daily lives. By investing in the creation of safer and more accessible pavements, the municipality is reaffirming its commitment to promoting a sustainable city that is friendly to all generations.
This urban intervention is a practical example of how Portimão City Council is working to ensure that citizens can enjoy infrastructure that encourages active lifestyles, contributes to reducing the ecological footprint and promotes community well-being.
