Municipal council replaces traditional holiday food baskets to give vulnerable families choice and independence.
A new municipal initiative replaces traditional food baskets, offering vulnerable families more choice and dignity this holiday season.
As the holiday season approaches, Loulé Municipal Council is launching its annual Christmas solidarity initiative to support vulnerable families across the municipality. In a major update for 2026, the traditional food baskets are being replaced with pre-loaded food cards.
This new format aims to respect individual preferences and nutritional needs, giving families the dignity and flexibility to select products directly according to their households. Designed to complement regular support from local charities, the initiative reinforces community welfare during a season centered on solidarity and togetherness.
Applications for the Christmas Food Card 2026 are open from October 26 to November 6, following a staggered schedule across Loulé’s various parishes. Eligible residents in economic or social vulnerability can register in person at designated parish locations listed on municipal notices.
For further information regarding application schedules and locations, residents can contact the Loulé Municipal Council Communication Office by phone at +351 289 400 878 or +351 919 072 627, or via email at comunicacao@cm-loule.pt or rita.pina@cm-loule.pt.
