Zoo de Lagos has made a positive step towards saving the Socorro dove from extinction.
The Socorro Dove, endemic to Socorro Island (Mexico), is extinct in the wild (EW). In an attempt to increase its numbers, zoos are coming together to maintain this species.
Lagos Zoo has created a space with aviaries for the Socorro Dove Project. The final objective is to send doves to Socorro Island for repopulation. This new Project has already borne fruit! Zoo Lagos is delighted to announce that one of their mating couples has already had two chicks.
