Celebrate Easter 2026 in Portimão

A Perfect Blend of Tradition and Family Fun in the Algarve

If you are looking for the perfect way to spend Easter in the Algarve, look no further than the vibrant city of Portimão. This year, the city invites residents and visitors alike to experience Viva a Páscoa em Portimão, a nine-day celebration that beautifully balances solemn religious tradition with fantastic family entertainment. Running from 28 March – 5 April, the program promises to transform the heart of the city into a festive, welcoming atmosphere that you simply cannot miss.

Family Fun and the Great Easter Egg Hunt

The festivities officially kick off on Saturday, March 28, at 15:00 in the Jardim Visconde Bívar, followed by a lively route right into the city centre. The absolute highlight for families is the highly anticipated “Caça aos Ovos” (Easter Egg Hunt), designed especially for children up to 12 years old. This exciting activity takes place over the long Easter weekend, from 3 – 5 April, running daily between 3 pm and 6 pm.

To join the fun, head over to the Praça da República (Alameda), where personalised activity cards will be distributed every half hour. Kids will love the challenge of searching for hidden numbers tucked away in the beautiful Easter decorations across various city landmarks, including Jardim Bívar, Jardim 1º de Dezembro, Alameda da República, Largo da Mó, and Largo 1º de Maio. Once their cards are fully completed, the little ones can redeem them for their Easter Eggs at TEMPO – Teatro Municipal de Portimão. Keep an eye out while you search—the Easter Bunny will be playfully roaming the streets, interacting with participants and spreading joy to the community!

Capture the Memories and Explore the City

The iconic squares and gardens of Portimão will serve as more than just hunting grounds; they are being transformed into enchanting photo spots where tradition meets modernity. It’s a wonderful opportunity to capture original holiday pictures with your loved ones. This initiative also aims to encourage visitors to explore the heart of Portimão, helping to value and revitalise local commerce during the festive season.

A Culturally Enriching Holy Week

Beyond the playful children’s activities, Portimão ensures the solemn, cultural essence of the season is beautifully preserved. The municipality features a rich liturgical program, particularly during Holy Week, that offers a true manifestation of faith and honours the historical importance of Easter traditions.

Best of all, these events are organised by the Portimão Municipality and all activities in the “Viva a Páscoa em Portimão 2026” program are completely free to attend. Gather your family, soak up the Algarve spring sunshine, and dive into a memorable Easter filled with joy, culture, and community spirit in Portimão!
