Portimão City Centre Retail

Launch of the Digital Commercial District

The Municipality of Portimão will present the “City Centre Retail – Digital Commercial District” project on March 16 at 10:00 a.m., at the Café Concerto of TEMPO. The initiative aims to transform the historic and commercial centre of the city.

The session is intended for all retailers operating in central Portimão and marks the start of the project’s implementation phase. The initiative represents a total investment of approximately €1.3 million, co-financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) with around €950,000.

Portimão’s Digital Commercial District seeks to modernise and digitalise local commerce, covering around 150 businesses in the city centre.

The project includes several components, such as a free digital marketplace for retailers, featuring online stores, booking systems, order management and delivery services; a dedicated website and mobile application for the district, with an interactive map, events calendar and tourist routes; augmented reality experiences at historical and cultural points of interest; interactive digital kiosks (MUPIs) in public spaces; digital lockers for parcel collection; and free, certified training in digital skills for retailers, among other features.

The presentation session will include the participation of the Mayor of Portimão and the manager of the Digital Commercial District. Representatives from the AEA – Algarve Entrepreneurs Association – as well as the company Mygon, responsible for the e-commerce platform, will also be present.

During the session, retailers will have the opportunity to learn in detail about the tools provided by the project and how to join the platform.

In the following days, between March 17 and 20, the Mygon team will be on site to carry out the in-person onboarding of retailers who wish to join the Marketplace.

The project is promoted by the Municipality of Portimão in partnership with ACRAL (Algarve Trade and Services Association), APCS (Portimão Trade and Services Association) and ATP (Portimão Tourism Association).

It also benefits from the collaboration of AEA (Algarve Entrepreneurs Association) in the training component, EPGE (Gil Eanes Vocational School) in content production and project support, and the Museums and Heritage Division of the Portimão City Council in the development of historical and cultural content.
