Portimão Unveils Cultural Tourism Strategy

The Municipality of Portimão presented its cultural tourism strategy and international promotion plan at the Algarve stand during the Lisbon Tourism Exchange (BTL 2026) on 25 February.

Under the theme “Portimão Strengthens Cultural Tourism and Consolidates Its International Projection,” the presentation highlighted the municipality’s main strategic projects currently underway. Particular emphasis will be placed in the future on the role of the Portimão Museum in promoting local heritage and identity, the MUSA project (Museum of Archaeological Finds from the Bed of the Arade River), and the rehabilitation of the Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes.

These initiatives form part of a broader strategy to create a new cultural quarter in the city centre, which will also include the TEMPO – Portimão Municipal Theatre.

The calendar of major international events scheduled for Portimão throughout 2026 further reinforces the municipality’s position as a leading tourist destination. Several of these initiatives will take place in iconic locations such as Praia da Rocha.

The event also featured a special appearance by television presenter Hugo Mendes and a performance by singer and songwriter Edmundo Inácio. The display culminated in a gastronomic moment featuring a sardine tasting, organised in partnership with the Confraria da Sardinha de Portimão, accompanied by regional wines and products.
