The Ambassador of Senegal Visits Lagos

The Senegalese Ambassador’s visit to Lagos strengthens partnership for future projects.

Yesterday, the city of Lagos received an illustrious visit from the Ambassador of Senegal to build institutional relations and strengthen the partnership agreement for the development of future projects.

The visit included the usual protocol and discussions, followed by a tour of the city’s charms, allowing for greater knowledge of the local culture and potential.

The relationship between Lagos and the Gorée Island Commune, located off Dakar, Senegal, dates back to 17 April 2008, when a Collaboration Agreement was signed between the two towns. The document signed symbolises a mutual commitment to promoting cultural, social and historical cooperation.

Ambassador Fatoumata Rassoul Correa’s visit reinforces the importance of exchanges between Lagos and Senegal, contributing to a solid and lasting partnership. The meeting opens the door to new joint initiatives, promoting sustainable development and valorising the cultural heritage of both cities. The two sides promised to work together to develop projects and ideas in various areas, such as youth, culture, sport, and tourism, in exchange for experiences.

Gorée Island has a population of around 2,000 inhabitants and is a place of inestimable historical and heritage value. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978. Located off the coast of Senegal, opposite Dakar, Gorée Island was one of the main centres of the slave trade between the 15th and 19th centuries. Initially established as a trading post by the Portuguese, it passed through Dutch, English and French administrations over the centuries.
