The Portimão Municipality has begun a phased maintenance and restoration project on the “Ao Pescador” sculpture, a landmark located in the Alvor riverside area. Conducted by the Museu de Portimão, the intervention focuses on removing recent graffiti and addressing environmental degradation to ensure the preservation of the work by sculptor João Cutileiro.
Standing four metres tall, the sculpture was inaugurated in 2000 as a tribute to the bravery, dedication, and historical maritime identity of the Alvor community. This restoration effort is part of a municipal strategy for the preventive conservation of public art, ensuring that significant cultural monuments remain preserved for the enjoyment of both residents and visitors.
