The John Aldridge Charity Golf Classic returned this September, delivering two days of friendly competition, laughter and remarkable generosity, all under the glorious Algarve sunshine.
This year’s event brought together 22 teams, teeing off on Friday, 12 September at Espiche Golf course for a Texas Scramble competition before moving on to Boavista Golf on Saturday, 13 September, where the teams battled it out to be crowned 2025 winners.
Friday proved to be the hottest day, not just in temperature but in golf scores too! Following the competition, players enjoyed a fantastic BBQ buffet, after which John Aldridge and Jason McAteer entertained the crowd with memorable stories from their Liverpool and Ireland football days.
Saturday brought the main event, where teams battled it out to be crowned champions. The Peak Top Agency team, consisting of Keith Hill, Kevin Carney, Robert Lelonek and Lee Birchall, emerged triumphant with an impressive 93 points in the Am-Am 2 scores to count format. Congratulations to them on a well-earned victory!
The excitement didn’t stop at the fairways. After the final round, guests enjoyed a delicious BBQ buffet before comedian Willie Miller took to the stage. With his quick wit and side-splitting humour, he had the entire room roaring with laughter.
Willie also brought his trademark humour to the charity auction, keeping the room laughing while helping raise vital funds. Auction prizes ranged from signed football memorabilia and VIP experiences at Liverpool home games to rounds of golf and even a barrel of Irish whiskey. Thanks to the incredible generosity of the attendees, the auction alone raised over €12.000, helping bring the weekend’s total to over €20.000.
Both Espiche and Boavista Golf Clubs provided the perfect backdrop for the event with first-class hospitality from start to finish. The beautifully maintained courses, delicious food, attentive staff and ice-cold drinks kept everyone refreshed and smiling throughout the weekend.
John would like to express his heartfelt gratitude to everyone who took part, emphasising that the funds will go toward supporting local charities and causes. Full details on the beneficiaries will be shared in a future edition.
Once again, the John Aldridge Charity Golf Classic proved to be much more than just a golf tournament … it’s a celebration of community spirit, generosity and fun in the sun.
Here’s to next year’s event, no doubt it will be another great success!
