Following our report on the success of two local dance schools, we are delighted to announce that the Sophia Rodrigues Dance School has received a merit from the Dance and Art Academy.
The Lagos local authority approved, at yesterday’s City Council Meeting on 19 August, the award of a vote of commendation to the Academy, recognizing the work developed and the significant results achieved throughout the 2025/2026 season.
Based in Odiáxere, in the municipality of Lagos, the Academy stood out in national and international competitions, achieving numerous podium finishes across different styles and categories. Among the results achieved were participations in AWB – Art Without Borders in Ayamonte (Spain) and Bergamo (Italy), the Dance Waves Competition in Vila Franca de Xira, and the Portugal Dance Competition in Pombal.
The municipality also highlighted the performance in the official exams of the Royal Academy of Dance, in which 58 students participated—all receiving passing marks—as well as the pedagogical work developed by the Academy in the artistic training of children and young people.
The season was also marked by the show “Eu, Lacóbriga e as Minhas Histórias Escondidas” (Me, Lacóbriga and My Hidden Stories), a project that combined dance with the history, heritage, and identity of Lagos, and by the first edition of DanceCamp Lagos – Summer Edition, supported by the municipality, which brought together 54 children and young people.
With this vote of commendation, the City Council recognizes the Academy’s contribution to the promotion of dance and culture, youth training, and the projection of the municipality’s talent at both national and international levels, congratulating its students, teachers, directors, and families on their achievements.
