Birdwatching and Nature Activities Festival

Four days of immersion in nature, with activities for all ages, is what another edition of the Birdwatching and Nature Activities Festival promises from October 3 to 6. This annual event, which has become a landmark in the calendar of outdoor activity enthusiasts, will take place in the charming village of Sagres, where the rich biodiversity provides the perfect setting for birdwatching and other nature-related activities.

A Celebration of Nature

In addition to a variety of birdwatching sessions on land and sea, this festival offers a range of opportunities for nature lovers to discover that the Algarve is much more than just beaches. There are also plenty of options for families and friends of birdwatchers, such as walks, hikes, lectures, and challenges for the little ones.

The Star of This Year

The headliner of this year’s festival is the Booted Eagle, named for the feathers that cover its legs like pants. This medium-sized bird of prey is mostly seen in flight and is identified by its “landing lights”: white patches on the sides of its neck, facing forward, like the landing lights of an airplane. An interesting aspect of this species is that it appears in two forms: light and dark, depending on the color of its chest and the underside of its wings. As a migratory species, it visits our country mainly in the spring and summer, although some individuals stay here in the winter. During migration, they frequently appear along the coast, and one of the best places to observe them is in the Sagres region, where, when the wind is from the east, dozens can be seen gathering.

Program and Registrations

The program and registrations will be available on the festival’s website starting August 1. Until then, the most important thing is to reserve space in your schedule and secure accommodation in the area.

The 15th edition of the Festival is once again organized by the Vila do Bispo City Council, in partnership with SPEA and the Almargem Association, and offers four days filled with activities for all tastes.
