Vila do Bispo’s Beaches Win “Qualidade de Ouro” Just in Time for Summer!
As we gear up for another beautiful summer in the Algarve, we at Tomorrow magazine love sharing the most exciting news and information about the places that make our region so special. If you’re looking for the perfect spot to lay your towel and enjoy pristine waters this season, look no further than Vila do Bispo!
On 4 May, the National Association for Nature Conservation announced their prestigious “Qualidade de Ouro” (Gold Quality) awards. We are thrilled to share that an impressive 12 beaches in Vila do Bispo received this honour, proudly placing the municipality in the top six nationwide for the highest number of awarded beaches.
Whether you are an avid surfer, a dedicated sunbather, or a family looking for a relaxing day by the sea, there is a golden beach waiting for you. The recognised beaches are Cabanas Velhas, Barranco, Beliche, Boca do Rio, Burgau, Castelejo, Cordoama, Furnas, Ingrina, Salema, Tonel, and Zavial.

What exactly does it take to earn the “Qualidade de Ouro”? This classification, which Quercus has been awarding for 15 years based exclusively on official public water quality data, requires a deeply consistent history of excellence. To achieve this gold standard, these beaches proved that their water quality was “excellent” for five consecutive bathing seasons between 2020 and 2024. Furthermore, rigorous tests during the 2025 season showed outstanding results that comfortably beat strict bacterial limits (including for E. coli and Intestinal enterococci), and the beaches experienced absolutely no warnings, advisories, or bans on swimming throughout the entire season.
This fantastic distinction officially solidifies Vila do Bispo as a benchmark destination in the Algarve. It guarantees locals and visitors alike a safe, top-tier experience sustained by years of environmental excellence.
So grab your sunscreen, pack your beach bag, and get ready to dive into the golden waters of Vila do Bispo this summer!
