It was an occasion when everyone embraced their 80’s wild child and partied the night away to raise money for the Tomorrow charity TACT.
Remember a time when shoulder pads (the bigger, the better) were in , leg warmers doubled as footwear accessories and acid-wash jeans were a lifestyle choice? A time when the music was loud and synth-driven, and mixtapes were the ultimate love letters.
The Tomorrow ‘Back to the 80’s’ Summer Ball was a night that exploded with neon, dodgy wigs, and a lot of bright eye makeup.

After enjoying cocktails around the pool and a fabulous buffet provided by Dunas Beach Club, guests were asked to embody their inner 80’s yuppie or Harry Enfield’s Loadsa Money and dig deep to make the night as generous and unforgettable as the decade itself! They did not disappoint, and an impressive €3,600 was raised for TACT, which has in the past given money to a wide variety of local causes, people or animals in need in the local area. These include Cadela Carlota, the Bombeiros, the Soup Kitchen and CASLAS children’s home. Our charity has also raised funds for vital treatment or equipment for several children in the local area suffering from rare genetic diseases.
As the sun set over Meia Praia, the Protons launched into an impressive set of eighties tunes which had everyone stripping off their shell suits and dancing well into the night.

The Man, The Legend. Tom Henshaw
During the proceedings, a special tribute was paid to Tom Henshaw to mark his retirement. Back in 2011, after many successful years in advertising across the Algarve and beyond, Tom had a vision: to create a magazine that celebrated people, community, and the stories that make this region so special. In December 2011, the first edition of Tomorrow magazine was born.
What started as a modest four-page publication quickly grew into something much bigger. Through Tom’s determination, passion and unwavering commitment, Tomorrow became a trusted voice in our community and a champion of local people, businesses and charities.
This edition is Tom’s 176th – a remarkable achievement and a testament to Tom’s hard work and dedication over the past fourteen-and-a-half years. But last summer, at the wonderfully young age of 82, Tom decided it was time to take early retirement!
When his colleagues Phil Harding and Sophie Sadler heard the news, they knew such an incredible legacy had to continue. They were honoured when Tom entrusted them with the responsibility of carrying Tomorrow forward. Since March this year, Phil and Sophie have proudly been its new custodians.
Without Tom’s vision, many of the stories told, businesses supported, friendships formed and community events celebrated through Tomorrow magazine simply would not have happened. Tom is an inspiration to us all. A true gentleman, a mentor, a friend, and someone whose wisdom we will continue to value for many years to come.
At the event, Sophie told the appreciative crowd, “On behalf of the entire Tomorrow team, and the wider community gathered here tonight and beyond, we thank you for everything you have done.” As a small token of their appreciation, Tom received a gift on behalf of everyone at Tomorrow magazine. All the guests were invited to stand and “raise a glass to Tom. A true gentleman. A community champion”.
To the one and only Tom Henshaw. We wish you a very happy retirement.
