On Tuesday, Lagos’ educational community met at the Lagos Cultural Centre to mark the beginning of the new academic year.
The municipality organised an opening session for the new 2024/2025 school year, inviting teachers, educators, assistants, technicians, educational partners, and parents. The aim was to promote the well-being and happiness of these professionals, who are essential to the success of schools and the training of new generations.
The Gil Rock School band from Agrupamento de Escolas Gil Eanes (led by Prof Jorge Figueira) was responsible for opening and closing the session.
The Júlio Dantas School Group was also present, with a flute performance by students Margarida Oliveira and Margot Guinard.
Throughout the afternoon, the public had the opportunity to listen to speeches by Hugo Pereira, mayor, Maria Joaquina Matos, president of the Municipal Assembly, Sara Coelho, councillor for Education and Youth, Carla Fernandes, delegate from the Algarve Regional Directorate of Education, Paula Couto, director of Agrupamento de Escolas Gil Eanes and José Lopes, director of Agrupamento de Escolas Júlio Dantas. They all praised the work of education and teaching professionals and parents in the training of children and young people, as well as their commitment to overcoming the challenges and constraints inherent in this area.
To keep the entire educational community informed, technicians from the municipality’s Education, Youth and Sport Division presented the educational agenda for 2024/2025 with the main activities planned for the school and educational community.
‘The Impact of Well-being and Happiness in Schools’ was the theme of the talk that followed, led by Tânia Gaspar, director of the Psychology, Innovation and Knowledge Service at Lusófona University and with extensive experience in this area.
In an atmosphere of great positivity, the main message that emerged throughout the initiative was that unity between the various elements of the school and the education community is fundamental to promoting quality education, where well-being and citizenship are a priority.
