Municipality of Faro Transfers €1.9 Million to Schools in the Municipality
Funds transferred under the delegation of powers agreements and resource transfers
The Municipality of Faro has approved the delegation of powers and resource transfer agreements for the school clusters in an amount of nearly 2 million euros (€1,908,095.85). This amount, representing the first installment of the total transfer for this year, aims to contribute to the improvement of the educational system, particularly regarding the autonomy, administration, and management of educational institutions, especially the school clusters João de Deus, Pinheiro e Rosa, Tomás Cabreira, D. Afonso III, and Montenegro, as well as the Dr. Alberto Iria School Cluster (located in Olhão, but responsible for managing the EB1 school on the island of Culatra).
This funding will help address various needs, including the maintenance and upkeep of educational buildings, the acquisition and maintenance of materials, the children’s folklore project, or educational projects, as well as the first instalment of financial aid for economically disadvantaged students in the municipality (school social action).
As with previous years, including last year, when the Municipality transferred a record amount of over 2.5 million euros to the school clusters, the amount to be transferred will likely be further increased with a second installment.
It is also worth mentioning that, in parallel, the Municipality of Faro is preparing a major refurbishment of its school infrastructure, with investments totalling over 16 million euros, including the construction of the new Afonso III Primary School/Kindergarten, as well as the refurbishments of EB 2, 3 Afonso III, EB 2, 3 Neves Júnior, and the school and kindergarten building that are part of EB 1 Estoi.
