Álvaro Bila Meets with National Director of PSP to Strengthen Security in Portimão
The Mayor of Portimão, Álvaro Bila, met this week with the National Director of the Public Security Police (PSP), Chief Superintendent Luís Farinha, in a working meeting held in Lisbon focused on strengthening security in the municipality.
The main purpose of the meeting was to address a range of priority public safety issues in Portimão, reflecting the municipality’s concern with improving protection for both residents and visitors.
Among the key topics discussed was the implementation of a city-wide CCTV surveillance system, a major project that foresees the installation of more than 200 cameras in strategic locations, including the historic centre, commercial areas, and riverside zones.
The need to reinforce police staffing levels in the municipality was also addressed, as well as the possibility of accelerating the deployment of the PSP Intervention Unit in the region—considered an essential measure to respond to current security challenges.
During the meeting, the mayor reiterated the City Council’s full readiness to actively cooperate with the PSP, stressing the importance of coordinated action between institutions to achieve these objectives in the short term.
