Lagos and Niagara Falls Strengthen Friendship

Municipalities of Lagos and Niagara Falls Strengthen Friendship Ties for the Future

The municipality of Lagos and the municipality of Niagara Falls, Canada, signed a friendship agreement on December 17, aiming to strengthen relations of friendship and cooperation between these municipalities and countries.

The ceremony took place in Carcavelos, during the EuroAmericas Forum, organized by the Portuguese Diaspora Council, and gathered over 40 countries, including government officials, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, and academics, to create solutions for common challenges on both sides of the Atlantic.

“Building the Future Through the Atlantic: A Forum for Europe and the Americas” was the theme of the first EuroAmericas Forum, which was chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and also attended by the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister.

In the days leading up to this ceremony, Jim Diodati, mayor of Niagara Falls, at the invitation of Hugo Pereira, mayor of Lagos, had the opportunity to visit the municipality and experience the charms and flavors of the city of discoveries.

For the president of this undeniably beautiful Canadian city, “this first visit to Portugal is of great value to the senses, for its beauty, smells, and flavors, and it is quite symbolic for Canada.”

Through this friendship agreement, the two cities agree to actively collaborate in a future cooperation relationship in the social, economic, cultural, environmental, and institutional areas, promoting the development of the involved territories.

The mayor of Niagara Falls was accompanied by Serge Felicetti, responsible for business and tourism, and Wilson Teixeira, an entrepreneur and driving force behind this friendship agreement between municipalities.
