Faro Attends BTL to Showcase Its Tourism Potential

The Municipality of Faro participated in the Bolsa de Turismo de Lisboa (BTL), the largest tourism fair in Portugal, which took place from March 12 to 16 at the Lisbon International Fair (FIL). As part of the Turismo do Algarve stand, Faro had a dedicated space to promote the richness and diversity of its tourist destination.

Main attractions of the region

During the event, the municipality highlighted the region’s main attractions, promoting cultural tourism through its valuable historical and architectural heritage and nature tourism. It also emphasized the breathtaking beauty of the Ria Formosa and the stunning barrier island beaches, such as Barreta (Deserta), Culatra, and Praia de Faro.

Local gastronomy and leisure activities were also key elements in promoting the region.

Nautical tourism

Another major highlight was nautical tourism, with a focus on the Faro Nautical Station digital platform (www.nauticalfaro.com) which offers leisure experiences, water sports, and visitor and crew support services. This initiative reinforces Faro as a premier destination for nautical activities.

On March 12, the Municipality of Faro, as the coordinating entity of the Faro Nautical Station, participated in the Fórum Oceano program at the Algarve Tourism Region stand, presenting the Faro Nautical Station to strengthen its position as a national and international reference in nautical tourism.

80th Anniversary celebrations of National Road 2 (EN2)

At this year’s BTL, Faro was also associated with the 80th-anniversary celebrations of National Road 2 (EN2), a central theme of the stand dedicated to this emblematic route.
As the southernmost (or starting) point of the EN2, the city took the opportunity to reinforce the importance of this tourist itinerary, which attracts thousands of national and international visitors across Portugal.

Faro has seen a year-on-year increase in visitors and overnight stays as a growing tourist destination. The city aimed to consolidate this growth through this strategic participation in BTL and reaffirm its commitment to tourism promotion.

Faro continues to stand out as a unique and diverse destination, ready to welcome visitors from all over the world. Offering a high-quality and distinctive experience, the city boasts sun, beaches, culture, nature, gastronomy, and much more—all available year-round.
