The Municipality of Portimão begins the renovation of the Jardim da Fortaleza at Praia da Rocha
On March 20th, marking the arrival of spring, the Municipality of Portimão signed the contract for the renovation and enhancement of the Jardim da Fortaleza at Praia da Rocha, kicking off a long-awaited project.
Awarded to Master Natura – Green Space Management, through a public tender, the intervention aims to address existing issues and revitalize the garden as a key green space.
The project involves recreating iconic areas, including the viewpoint over the cliffs to the west and the seating area near the Fortaleza. Additionally, it will renew access points and introduce modern features, such as corten steel railings, contemporary street lighting, and new urban furniture, while preserving the original stone walls, stairs, and benches.
The vegetation will be enhanced by incorporating typical Mediterranean species, alongside others that reflect the Algarve’s cultural landscape, maintaining the garden’s original character.
The Jardim da Fortaleza de Santa Catarina de Ribamar it is one of Praia da Rocha’s most iconic spots, recognized for its history, scenic views, and breathtaking landscape. Set to be completed in about seven months, this project highlights Portimão’s dedication to preserving and improving this exceptional area, offering both locals and visitors a prime spot for relaxation and reflection.
