Municipality Allocates Vehicles to Security Forces

The Lagos City Council marked the start of its 2026 activities by handing over two vehicles to the security forces operating in the municipality.

The provision of vehicles to the Public Security Police (PSP) and the National Republican Guard (GNR) aims to strengthen the operational capacity of both forces in the municipality of Lagos, particularly in terms of officers’ mobility for community policing duties. This measure is intended to extend this type of patrol to areas requiring more regular police presence and to improve the effectiveness of police action in preventing crime, maintaining public order and peace, and protecting people and property.

The allocation will also help protect more vulnerable groups—namely children, young people, the elderly and victims of crime—by enabling greater resources to be assigned to programmes such as “Safe School”, “Elderly in Safety” and “Safe Commerce”, among others.

The decision, taken in early October last year with the approval of the draft vehicle-loan protocol, is now being implemented with the formal delivery of the two vehicles—one assigned to the Lagos Territorial Police Station of the PSP and the other to the Lagos Territorial Post of the GNR. Both vehicles were purchased specifically for this purpose and are fully equipped and marked.

As part of this joint effort, the municipality will also cover all associated costs, including compulsory insurance, road tax, maintenance, servicing and repairs of the vehicles provided.
