Nursing Station at Praia da Luz Now Operational
As the summer season begins, Praia da Luz has taken a significant step in strengthening local healthcare services. The new Nursing Station, located in the former Guarda Fiscal post on Avenida dos Pescadores in Vila da Luz, is now fully operational and ready to deliver essential first aid services throughout the bathing season.
Open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., the station is staffed by a qualified nurse who ensures the immediate provision of nearby first aid care. This initiative is part of the “Postos de Praia” (Beach Posts) project launched by the Algarve Local Health Unit (ULS Algarve), which aims to expand healthcare coverage across Algarve municipalities—a goal that the municipality of Lagos has actively embraced.
Crucially, the project seeks to ease the burden on primary care facilities and hospital emergency departments by addressing minor incidents directly at the beach. As such, the station is equipped to handle common summer ailments, including falls, abrasions, sunburn, weever fish stings, and mild discomfort. In more serious cases, patients are promptly referred to appropriate medical units.
Moreover, this proximity-based service is made possible through collaboration with the Portuguese Red Cross – Lagos Branch, and the support of the Luz Parish Council. Together, these efforts help enhance public health, safety, and overall well-being for beachgoers, while also reinforcing the region’s reputation as a secure seaside destination.
Porto de Mós Beach features a similar first aid station
It is also worth noting that nearby Porto de Mós Beach features a similar first aid station, operated by the Lagos Fire Department. This facility is available daily from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. throughout the bathing season.
