Now that the weather is finally improving and we are hoping to see those glorious Algarve blue skies return over the weekend, it is the ideal opportunity to get out and about with the people you love. Whether you want to treat your partner, catch up with friends, or spend quality time with family, Lagos has just the excuse you need to leave the house this week.
To mark Valentine’s Day, the Municipality of Lagos is launching “Lagos com Amor” (Lagos with Love), a special programme running from the 13th to the 15th of February. The initiative celebrates love in all its forms by bringing together romantic moments, cultural experiences, gastronomy, and music in public spaces.
Capture the Moment: If you are wandering through town between the 13th and 15th, look out for the Baloiço dos Namorados (Valentine’s Swing) in the Historic Centre near the Taxi Rank. It has been set up specifically as a photography corner, perfect for capturing special memories with your loved ones.
Walks, Markets, and Music: For those keen to make the most of the brighter weather, there is a guided walk titled “Together Looking at the Sea” on the morning of the 14th at 10:00 am. Led by Artur de Jesus, the route starts at Avenida dos Descobrimentos and offers stunning views of Ponta da Piedade and Porto de Mós. It is free to join, though you must register online in advance.
If you prefer a bit of bustle, the Mercado do Amor (Market of Love) will be taking over the Mercado de Levante. Open from 5 pm to 9 pm on the 14th, and 2 pm to 9 pm on the 15th, this artisan showcase features sweets, food and drink, and plenty of entertainment. You can expect live music from local acts like Filomena Batista and Miguel Martins, as well as theatre performances by “Aqui Há História”.
Food and Culture: Foodies might fancy the “Menu for a Romantic Dinner” showcooking event with Teresa Couto on the 14th at Restaurante Petanca. Starting at 5.30 pm, you will learn how to prepare Cod with Cornbread (Bacalhau com Broa) and a delicious Grilled Pineapple dessert.
To round off the celebrations, the Lagos Light Orchestra is performing a “Love Songs from the 70s & 80s” concert at the Lagos Cultural Centre on the 14th at 7 pm—tickets are available at the reception or via BOL.
A Little Extra Help: To make your visit easier, the council is offering free parking at the Parque da Frente Ribeirinha for up to two hours per day from the 13th to the 15th. You just need to present a receipt for over €10 from a local shop or restaurant.
So, why not say goodbye to the rain and hello to love in Lagos this weekend?
