The Algarve Takes the Crown: Named #1 Golf Destination for 2025

The Algarve has once again proven itself to be a premier global hotspot, securing the top spot as the most popular golf holiday destination for 2025.

According to new booking data released by Glencor Golf Holidays, the region beat out stiff competition from the Costa del Sol to claim the number one ranking. This latest accolade reinforces the Algarve’s reputation as a “must-visit” location for sports and leisure tourism.

An Unbeatable Combination

While the victory is exciting, it comes as no shock to industry experts. Corrie Renton, Director of Glencor Golf Holidays, noted that the region’s dominance was expected.

“We’re not surprised that Algarve golf holidays topped the list again in 2025,” said Renton. “As a destination, it offers an unbeatable combination of world-class golf, great value, and year-round sunshine.”

The data highlights a strong year for Portugal as a whole. While the Algarve took the top regional spot, Lisbon also secured a place in the top 10, helping Portugal rank as the second most popular country for golfers overall, just behind Spain.

The Top 5 Golf Destinations for 2025

The Algarve led the pack in a competitive international field. The top five most booked destinations were:

  1. Algarve
  2. Costa Del Sol
  3. Murcia
  4. Lisbon
  5. Costa De La Luz

Golf Remains a Social Experience

The report also shed light on how visitors are enjoying our region. Golf tourism remains a deeply social activity, perfectly suited to the Algarve’s hospitality.

The data revealed that the average golf trip involves a group of seven people, with visitors staying for an average of 4.5 nights.

“Golf holidays remain a very social experience, with customers typically travelling in groups and staying for longer breaks,” added Glen Renton, Director of Glencor Golf Holidays. He noted that golfers are continuing to prioritise these shared experiences.

With sun, sea, and world-class fairways, the Algarve looks set to remain the gold standard for golfers in 2026.
