Partnership to facilitate conflict resolution

Municipality of Faro partners with the Autonomous University of Lisbon to facilitate conflict resolution, strengthening its commitment to promoting active and healthy ageing.

Promoting a more accessible, faster, and cost-effective justice system for the residents of the municipality is the main goal of the pioneering protocol signed between the Municipality of Faro and C.E.U. – Cooperativa de Ensino Universitário, C.R.L., of the Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa (UAL), which oversees CAUAL – the Arbitration Center of that institution.

The partnership establishes a free or low-cost mediation and arbitration service, offering residents quicker and more affordable solutions compared to traditional judicial proceedings.

CAUAL is nationally recognized for its expertise in arbitration, mediation, conciliation, and negotiation, bringing together highly qualified arbitrators and mediators — many of whom are specialized professors in various areas of Law.

Residents of Faro will thus benefit from facilitated referrals for conflict resolution requests directly through the Municipality, technical and logistical support throughout the arbitration process, ensuring greater efficiency, and awareness and training activities, including courses and information sessions on alternative dispute resolution methods.

With this agreement, Faro reinforces its commitment to defending citizens’ rights.

For more information about the service or how to submit requests for mediation or arbitration, residents may visit the Municipality’s service counters.
