Golfers taking Glencor Golf Holidays’ quiz are being recommended trips to Spain and Portugal most often
Results from Glencor Golf Holidays’ new quiz have shown that most people are best off choosing a golf holiday in Spain or Portugal.
The results from the quiz, which launched in June, shows that when asked five questions around culture, flight times, holiday length, golf courses and time of year to travel, Spain was the best option.
More than one in three people got one of Spain’s many golfing destinations as their recommended destination.
Take the quiz today to find your perfect golf holiday.
Destination | Percentage given answer |
Spain | 38.3% |

Belgium | 5.6% |

The most popular area was Costa del Sol, with 9.4% of all users being suggested this stunning area southwest of Barcelona.
Corrie Renton, Director of Glencor Golf Holidays, said: “Our business began by selling golf holidays to Costa del Sol and the Algarve many years ago.
“These continue to be our top-selling destinations despite the growth of golf tourism in other destinations in wider Spain and Portugal, as well as Turkey and Morocco.
“With excellent access from most UK airports from numerous low-cost airlines, fairly short flight times, and most importantly, some excellent golf courses, we can only see the Costa del Sol continue to go from strength to strength.”

Portugal’s most popular destination was the Algarve.
Maria Manuel Delgado e Silva from the Algarve Tourist Board said: “Golfers choose the Algarve for its perfect blend of sunshine, world-class courses, and stunning coastal scenery.
“The region offers not only championship fairways designed by renowned architects but also friendly Portuguese people, excellent hospitality, and a rich cultural backdrop.
“With its unique combination of year-round mild weather, breathtaking landscapes, and easy access to both luxury and authenticity, the Algarve stands out as an unforgettable destination for golf holidays.”
Lisbon was also a hugely popular choice.
A spokesperson for Visit Lisboa added, “The Lisboa region is the perfect golf destination. We are not surprised that so many people are being recommended it for their golf holidays. The tranquillity and satisfaction to be found on the greens are matched only by the quality, number and diversity of Lisboa’s golf.”
Morocco and Turkey both fared well with 10% and 8.3% respectively being offered up these slightly less common golf destinations. And rightly so as both have an array of great hotels and golf courses to choose from.
Beaches or bars? Long haul or quick trip?
One of the key questions in the quiz was what people would be doing outside of hitting the local fairways.
And the answer was surprising, with 44% looking to take in the local culture.
One in three (33%) wanted to spend their time on the beaches, while just 23% would prioritise the local nightlife.
Interestingly, nearly 1 in 5 people were looking for long-haul flights, with 20% opting to fly more than 8 hours.
The majority, however, wanted a quick trip abroad, with 53% choosing a manageable 2-4-hour journey.
Most people were looking for a short golfing break, with more than half (57%) choosing 3-6 days to spend exploring the fairways, bunkers, and beaches.
One in ten (11%) fancied a quick golfing jaunt of just 1-2 days, while 25% needed a little longer, going for 7-10 days.

When people like to go on a golfing holiday
The shoulder season was the most popular time to travel with 40% choosing September or October as their perfect travel time.
Only 5.6% wanted a bit of winter sun by choosing a golf holiday in November, December or January.
Preferred month | Percentage chose |
Sept | 24.4% |
Oct | 15.6% |
March | 10.0% |
May | 13.9% |
June | 7.8% |
July | 6.1% |
February | 6.7% |
April | 5.6% |
August | 4.4% |
Jan | 3.9% |
Dec | 1.1% |
Nov | 0.6% |
When it came to the quality of golf on their trip, this was a key decision. More than 1 in 3 (38%) wanted high-quality golfing on their golf holiday. The same number asked for Medium Quality.
Only 23% said that the importance of golfing quality was a low priority for them.
