Portimão Câmara Supports Nine Athletes Competing Individually
The Municipality announced an investment of €55,800 to enhance sports presence in national and international competitions.
Following the signing of thirty-six programme contracts with local sports clubs and associations on April 25, the Municipality of Portimão entered into new agreements with nine individual athletes on 2 June, reinforcing its commitment to individual sports development.

The signing ceremony took place in the Salão Nobre of the Town Hall and was attended by the athletes, who excel in various disciplines including motorsport, rally, surfing, karting, mountain biking (BTT), judo, and paragliding. The total amount awarded is €55,800, intended to support participation in national and international events throughout the year.
The Mayor, Álvaro Bila, highlighted that these contracts represent “recognition of the athletes’ hard work, who have achieved remarkable results and promoted the name of Portimão at both national and international levels.”
The athletes benefiting from the programme contracts are: Bernardo Pinheiro (motorsport), Carlos Marreiros (motorsport/rally), Constância Simões (surf), Gabriel Marreiros (karting), Luizete Dias (cycling/BTT), Márcio Marreiros (motorsport/rally), Miguel Nery Gago (judo), Nelson Pacheco (paragliding), and Rui Marreiros (cycling/BTT).
Federated athletes from Portimão who compete individually or represent clubs outside the municipality and whose sporting performance stands out can apply for these municipal support grants.
