Lagos Digital Health Portugal Meetup discussed challenges and innovations in Health and Wellness Tourism.
The growth of health tourism globally and in Portugal has been driving the development and implementation of innovative digital tools capable of improving access, quality and efficiency of medical services for international patients.
With this in mind, the XII Digital Health Portugal Meetup was held on 20 February at the Paços do Concelho Século XXI building in Lagos. This event brought together experts, technology companies, medical tourism professionals, and representatives from institutions in the health sector to discuss the latest innovations and technological solutions to support foreign patients.

The opening session included welcome speeches from Hugo Pereira, Mayor of Lagos; André Gomes, President of Turismo do Algarve; Ana Marreiros, C.A. ULS Algarve; Paulo Bernardo, Director of W4M Digital Solutions and Paulo Nunes de Abreu, one of the founders of Digital Health Portugal.

During the event, key issues were debated, such as the creation of digital interfaces adapted to different languages, remote health management tools and the importance of patient data security and privacy. The presentations and panel discussions also covered success stories and emerging trends in the digitalisation of healthcare services, highlighting the role of technology in optimising the international patient experience.
Among the topics covered, ‘Regulation and Safety in Health Tourism’ and ‘Digital Health: Future Trends in Health and Wellness Tourism’ were topics that, due to their relevance, prompted a more heated debate.
The Mayor of Lagos, Hugo Pereira, considers it an honour to co-organise this important event, given all the knowledge and learning it has provided. For the mayor, Health and Wellness Tourism has enormous potential in the region, with high-quality infrastructure. The only thing missing is the organisation of the region around this goal.
In a very competitive international market, the XII Digital Health Portugal Meetup reinforced the sector’s commitment to stimulating innovation and digital transformation in health tourism, ensuring that Portugal and the Algarve continue to establish themselves as destinations of reference for international patients.
