Celebrating the Algarve Orange

Orange Week returns to Portimão Municipal Market.

The Portimão Municipal Market is again dedicating a week to the Algarve orange. From 18 to 22 February, the tasty and healthy citrus fruit will be promoted at a special price.

Organised by the Market’s Horticultural Sector and the Municipality of Portimão, the event’s motto is ‘Algarve orange – there’s no healthier fruit’ and will be marked by daily show-cookings, always from 10 am to 11.30 am, with the presentation of menus inspired by the juicy fruit.

The Portimão School of Hospitality and Tourism will organise the show cookings. On the 22nd, Chef Nuno Martins from the NUMA restaurant will join the event and present a special event on the theme of ‘Sustainability and Zero Orange Waste’.

This year, the operators will also organise a raffle, providing their customers with vouchers for cash prizes for shopping at the Municipal Market.

In addition to the Portimão School of Hospitality and Tourism, the Gil Eanes Professional School is supporting this promotional initiative for the fruit and vegetable sector. It will once again help with the photographic record of the five days of the event.

Good morning, Market

In addition, on the 22nd, the last day of this promotional activity, there will be a live broadcast of the ‘Bom dia, Mercado’ programme, which aims to convey the energy of a Saturday morning at the Portimão Municipal Market, dedicated to the Algarve orange.

The programme also aims to promote local culture by providing a platform for musicians, singers, and other artists from the region.

‘Bom Dia, Mercado’ will run from 10 am to 12 noon and is aimed at people who enjoy live music and local stories. It will interact with customers of the municipal shopping centre and listeners who follow Alvor FM radio and its online broadcast.

The programme aims to profile the Portimão Municipal Market and highlight its traders, producers, musicians, and the local community.

‘Bom dia, Mercado’ starts on 15 February and, exceptionally, will also take place on 22 February, complementing the closing of Orange Week. It will then be held fortnightly for approximately five months.
