Faro Municipality Launches Coordination Process with Partners to Improve Waste Collection and Urban Cleanliness
Public meeting to take place on May 19 at 10:00 a.m. at Club Farense
As part of its commitment to enhancing public space, protecting public health, safeguarding environmental values, and contributing to national and European targets for selective waste collection, the Municipality of Faro and FAGAR have initiated a coordination process with ALGAR, the Algarve Hotel and Tourism Enterprises Association (AHETA), the Algarve Industrial Hotels and Similar Establishments Association (AIHSA), the Algarve Regional Traders Association (ACRAL), and the Hospitality, Catering and Similar Services Association of Portugal (AHRESP), aimed at improving waste collection and urban cleanliness conditions.
To this end, all members of the represented sectors—namely restaurants, bars, pastry shops, retail spaces, local accommodation units, and hotels—will be engaged and called upon to commit to a joint effort enabling door-to-door collection of biowaste and packaging waste, alongside improvements in the disposal of separated waste streams.
In this context, a public session will be held on May 19 at 10:00 a.m. at Club Farense, targeting all establishments located in the city centre and surrounding areas. This initiative will also involve the Commercial Development Association of Faro’s Historic Centre and the Local Accommodation Association in Portugal (ALEP), seeking through a shared effort and commitment to progressively improve waste collection operations and enhance the quality of the city’s public space.
