Cadela Carlota’s dogs and cats need your help.
At Cadela Carlota, we recently received a generous offer from someone who had adopted a dog from us. They wanted to donate money to a specific project for the dogs. With this wonderful offer, we decided to renovate the existing house on our property to create a much-needed quarantine area for all new dog admissions. This is something that we have been wanting to do for a long time.
As I write this article, we are experiencing a severe parvo outbreak in the Algarve. Parvo is highly contagious and affects dogs and puppies without immunity or vaccination. Hygiene and surveillance are of the utmost importance, and our dogs and puppies are taken to the vet at the first sign of being unwell. Despite all our best efforts at cleaning and general hygiene, we currently have a dog in a vet hospital in Faro and another in Portimão. The new quarantine area will prove invaluable in helping us to avoid this upsetting situation.
Fundraising to move our cats out of their cramped premises in the centre of Lagos to a purpose-built facility (the location of which is to be confirmed) is ongoing. No doubt you will have seen our volunteers collecting dog and cat food in the local supermarkets.
We have also been selling our special dog and cat-related merchandise at various events throughout Lagos. Please make time to visit our stall at the Levante market every Saturday to see the new merchandise and buy some homemade cookies and jam. All the profits we make will help us to continue our vital work in looking after the dogs and cats, who, through no fault of their own, are in much need of our help and loving care.
