Portugal Smart Cities Summit

Portimão Showcases Innovative Experience at Portugal Smart Cities Summit 2025

The Municipality of Portimão recently had the honour of being invited by CTT – Correios de Portugal to participate in this year’s Portugal Smart Cities Summit, held on June 3rd in Lisbon. During the summit, Portimão presented a practical case study on the implementation of its new E-Carta feature across municipal departments.

The E-Carta, developed by CTT, has been integrated into Portimão’s municipal services as part of the ongoing modernisation and digital transition of public services. One of the most significant advantages of the E-Carta is its ability to enable the municipality to issue official communications entirely digitally, utilising a streamlined platform. This shift not only accelerates administrative processes, saving valuable time for staff but also considerably cuts costs associated with physical resources—such as paper, envelopes, printers, and storage space.

In addition to its efficiency, the municipality views this initiative as a crucial step toward promoting a circular and sustainable economy within public administration. Silvia Duarte, the head of the Administrative Division, represented Portimão at the summit and shared how this new functionality has transformed employee task management. By eliminating manual procedures such as printing, packaging, registration, and transporting documents to post offices, staff members can focus on more value-added roles that benefit both the local government and community members.

By embracing this innovative initiative, the Municipality of Portimão reinforces its commitment to enhancing public service efficiency and sustainability. The overarching goal remains clear: to better serve local residents while improving working conditions for its employees.

Stay tuned for more updates from your community as Portimão continues to lead the way in smart and sustainable practices!
