Over Four Million Euros have been awarded to local associations by the Portimão council.
In a vibrant show of community spirit, the Portimão municipality has announced significant support for local associations, pledging over four million euros as part of a groundbreaking program. This generous funding was unveiled during the recent celebrations marking the 25th of April, a date of historical significance.
The City Council has entered into program contracts with an impressive 110 local associations, amounting to a staggering total of €4,057,065.23—an increase of approximately €1.3 million compared to last year! This financial boost demonstrates the municipality’s commitment to nurturing the heart of Portimão.
Breaking down the figures, €2,443,834.50 has been allocated for running costs, while €1,613,230.73 is set to enhance investments in facilities and expand the programs offered by these essential organisations. The funding will support a diverse array of 28 social support associations, 53 cultural and recreational groups, and 36 sports clubs, ensuring that various community needs are met.
The inspiring signing ceremony was attended by Mayor Álvaro Bila, city councillors, and representative leaders from each of the participating associations. During his heartfelt address, Mayor Bila expressed immense pride in Portimão’s vibrant associative movement, remarking, “You keep our city alive, and the return on investment we get from you far exceeds what we’ve bestowed upon you today.”
The Mayor elaborated on these clubs’ crucial roles across all age groups—catering to youth, seniors, culture enthusiasts, sports lovers, and those seeking social support. He highlighted their vital contributions to community cohesion, stating that they are a key driving force for unity and engagement within the municipality.
