“The French Film of the Month” Cycle Returns to Portimão for the Eighth Consecutive Year to Showcase Great Cinema

The Portimão Museum is once again bringing the best of French cinema through the initiative “The French Film of the Month,” returning to the city on January 30 and running until September. All screenings are free of charge, starting at 9:00 PM, and films are shown in French with Portuguese subtitles.

This event is jointly organized by the Alliance Française of the Algarve and the Friends of the Portimão Museum Group (GAMP). Its goal is to strengthen cultural ties with local associations, promote French cinematic successes to the Algarve audience, and attract the growing number of French residents and tourists in the region, offering them a chance to explore local history and heritage.

This edition features seven films, each showcasing the diversity of contemporary French cinema:
🎬 Opening Film: Libre Garance by Lisa Diaz (2022) – January 30
This 1h36 drama-comedy is set in the summer of 1982 and follows Garance, an eleven-year-old girl living with her parents in a village in the Cévennes region, whose peaceful life is disrupted when two Italian activists rob a bank.

Over the years, “The French Film of the Month” has gained a loyal following among film and French culture enthusiasts in the Algarve. The cycle aims to offer a rich variety of emotions and thought-provoking themes through comedies, dramas, and romances.

The Alliance Française of the Algarve, headquartered in Faro, is a private association dedicated to promoting French language and culture. Its activities include teaching Portuguese to French speakers, conducting French exams, and providing translation services.
