The Algarveans Welcome You to Wonderland

The Algarveans amateur theatre group celebrated its 35th anniversary this September, marking 35 years since a small group gathered at Jerry Lane’s home to create entertainment for expatriates in the Algarve. Following its debut production of Puss in Boots and twenty subsequent pantomimes, the group is launching its 36th year with an autumn staging of Alice in Wonderland.

Adapted by Tom Whalley from Lewis Carroll’s 1865 story, the traditional British-style pantomime is directed by Frank Remiatte, with dance direction by Shelley Danca and musical direction by Shirley Devlin. The family show combines comedy, music, audience participation, and local humor.

The production features an ensemble of 30 cast members, starring Gracie Salter in the lead role of Alice, who brings two years of experience with the UK’s National Youth Music Theatre to the stage.

Alice in Wonderland, suitable for ages six and over, will be playing at the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium, Lagoa on November 19, 20 and 21 at 7:30 pm with a matinée on Saturday Nov 21 at 2
pm. Tickets at €15 will soon be available.
