I Manuel Teixeira Gomes Music Festival
The creation of the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Music Festival by the Barlavento Ensemble Association is nothing more than a fair recognition and expression of gratitude toward this outstanding and unique figure of Portuguese politics and culture — especially to the most illustrious native son born in the city of Portimão.
A writer, distinguished diplomat, President of the Republic, confessed music lover, and tireless admirer of the artistic beauty his eyes and ears could behold in his time (an aesthete of attentive and meticulous vision), Manuel Teixeira Gomes knew, like no other, how to maintain uprightness of character, refusing to be corrupted by the distortions of interest and misguided political choices that arose during his life.
It is in this spirit that the Barlavento Ensemble Association pays him the most fitting tribute through the creation of a Music Festival bearing his name.
This edition will feature four chamber music recitals, held weekly throughout the month of October at the Manuel Teixeira Gomes House Museum.
