Lagos Welcomes the 5th Encontro Secreto de Tango
From 19 to 21 November 2026, Lagos will become a meeting point for Rioplatense dance, music and culture with the 5th Encontro Secreto de Tango.
This non-profit cultural festival brings together local and international communities through a shared passion for tango, encouraging multicultural exchange while also contributing to the local economy during the Algarve’s quieter tourism season.
The three-day programme will include traditional milongas, where participants can experience tango as a social dance, alongside workshops led by renowned teachers Gladys and Oscar and live music performances, including a concert by the Romina Balestrino Trio.
With its community-led and non-profit spirit, the festival places particular emphasis on inclusion and cultural exchange. Residents, visitors and newcomers of all ages are invited to discover and experience a dance tradition with roots in Argentina and Uruguay that has travelled far beyond the Río de la Plata.
In 2009, UNESCO inscribed tango on its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, recognising a cultural tradition encompassing music, dance, poetry and the communities that have carried it across generations.
For three days in November, Lagos will offer a little corner of the Río de la Plata in the Algarve, bringing people together through music, movement and dance.
