The Portimão Museum once again showcases the best of French filmmaking through the initiative French Film of the Month, which returns to the city on January 29 and runs through September. The programme features monthly screenings with free admission, always at 9:00 p.m. Films are shown in their original French version with Portuguese subtitles.

This edition brings together six contemporary films that reflect the diversity of today’s French cinema, alongside a classic work from France’s cinematic heritage. Together, they offer audiences a rich journey across styles, genres and themes.

The opening screening takes place on January 29 with the thriller Une affaire de principe (2024), directed by Antoine Raimbault. Running approximately 90 minutes, the film is set in Brussels in 2012 and follows an investigation led by Member of the European Parliament José Bové after the sudden resignation of the European Commissioner for Health. What begins as an obscure case unfolds into a far-reaching conspiracy capable of shaking European institutions. The film is based on real events.

All screenings take place on the last Thursday of each month, in original French with Portuguese subtitles, on the following dates:

  • January 29 – Une affaire de principe, by Antoine Raimbault
  • February 26 – Le Royaume, by Julien Colonna
  • March 26 – Le dernier des juifs, by Noé Debré
  • April 30 – Le quatrième mur, by David Oelhoffen
  • May 28 – Mélodie en sous-sol, by Henri Verneuil
  • June 25 – Fragile, by Emma Benestan
  • September 24 – Fifi, by Paul Saintillan and Jeanne Aslan
