“In Black and White” Marks the 50th Anniversary of Angola’s Independence at Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes
The exhibition “In Black and White” opens on November 8 at 4:00 p.m. at Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes, in an initiative by artist Agostinho Jorge to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Angola’s independence.
Comprising 21 charcoal drawings, the exhibition explores the interaction between the colonizer and the native population, revealing five centuries of mutual influence.
The works were created in late 1975, at a time when Angola was experiencing the defining moment of its independence.
Five decades later, Agostinho Jorge brings these pieces “into the light of day” with an exhibition that also includes original documents from the three liberation movements — such as government programs, flags, newsletters, and pamphlets.
The exhibition is free to enter and will be on display for a month at the Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes. It can be visited from Tuesday to Friday, between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., and on Saturdays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
