“Alameda Viva” Project Returns to Faro
The “Alameda Viva” project returns to Faro with five months of activities for diverse audiences.
Local institutions will be the main participants in an event aimed at promoting community engagement and celebrating Jardim da Alameda, an iconic green space in the city of Faro.
The “Alameda Viva” project will resume on May 31 and run until October 18.
Over five months, the historic Jardim da Alameda will host biweekly activities on Saturday afternoons (from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.) for the whole family, as well as biweekly sessions on Tuesday mornings (from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.) for seniors.
The program has been developed around the following themes:
- May 31 – Garden of Loose Words
- June 1 (Sunday – Children’s Day) – Little Ones’ Garden
- June 14 – Sustainability Garden
- June 28 – Garden of the Arts
- July 12 – Garden of Communities
- July 26 – To the Garden with Grandparents
- August 9 – Enjoying Summer in the Garden
- August 23 – Garden of the Senses
- September 6 – Tribute to Faro in the Garden
- September 20 – From the Garden to the Classroom
- October 4 – Garden of Movement
- October 18 – The Enchanted Garden
Involving various groups coordinated by local associations, schools, elderly care homes, and several public institutions, “Alameda Viva” aims to foster a healthy and enjoyable dynamic between people of different ages and backgrounds. It also seeks to promote educational and recreational activities that allow families to enjoy quality time together and reconnect with nature.
This emblematic city space will thus come to life again, being rediscovered and appreciated by many.
This initiative also provides a special opportunity for seniors from local care homes and day centers to spend time outdoors and engage in inter-generational interaction, as the senior-focused program has been specifically shared with these institutions.
2024 Edition
The 2024 edition was a great success, involving 20 associations (both cultural and sports-related), eight entertainment companies, 17 artists from various fields, and six elderly care homes and day centers.
Each themed event attracted an average of 400 participants, bringing together multiple generations — children, teenagers, parents, and grandparents.
As for the activities aimed at seniors, an average of 30 participants attended each session.
Over the five-month period, around 5,000 people took part in the project, many of whom expressed that “this kind of initiative is important, as it revitalizes public spaces and creates true moments of family bonding.”
The program will be available on the city council’s website (https://www.cm-faro.pt/pt/destaques/80572/alameda-viva.aspx) and will be continuously updated with the groups participating in each session.
