Desalination Plant in Vilamoura Marina

The new Vilamoura Marina already has a desalination plant up and running.

The new Vilamoura Marina, inaugurated at the end of 2024, has a capacity for large vessels. With the desalination plant, the Marina is reinforcing its contribution to the preservation of water resources and a more sustainable future by continually promoting the efficient and responsible management of its resources.

This equipment contributes to optimising Vilamoura Marina’s water resources and serves the boat-washing activities at the New Marina, the shipyard, irrigation, and other non-potable water uses.

“Last Saturday, 22 March, was World Water Day and, in that sense, this is news that couldn’t come at a better time and that makes us very proud. With this desalination plant, we reaffirm our role as a pioneering marina in promoting responsible and sustainable environmental practices in nautical infrastructures,” says Isolete Correia, CEO of Vilamoura Marina.

This desalination plant treats salt water using reverse osmosis, capturing water from the Vilamoura Marina’s inner basin. This is complemented by an automatic equipment maintenance and reading system, with remote communication to the team in charge, which maximises efficiency.
