I took early retirement and moved to Portugal thirteen years ago as I love the climate, relaxed life style and the ex-pat scene. I’ve had a number of different jobs over the years including being a life guard, working at the Natural History museum in London, sorting parcels at the Post Office, packing paper at Rank Xerox where you got a bonus if you lasted a week, running a laboratory for an orchid nursery and even dabbling with spreadsheets as a profession.

I’ve got several qualifications too – some more useful than others. I have a touch-typing certificate courtesy of bribing someone else to take the test for me, a diploma from the Garden Design School, a couple of life saving medals, a botany degree from Oxford University and a certificate to prove that I survived a night in the Ice Hotel in Sweden.

An obscure claim to fame is inheriting a garden rake from my parents that once belonged to Norman Tebbit. I’ve also enjoyed making papier maché hats for themed virtual dinner parties during lockdown! Other interests include gardening, hiking, food and drink, my four cats, photography and travelling.

I am a member of the Clube dos Bons Jardins, a friendly mult-national garden club that meets at different locations around the Algarve and I love sharing the secrets of my garden and photos with Tomorrow readers.
