I did an interview with Tomorrow magazine in the 2019 July issue which featured my career in music. I played the trumpet in a Symphony Orchestra for 25 years before moving to the dark side of management initially as CEO of an Irish Chamber Orchestra and latterly as MD of a baroque/period instrument orchestra in Cleveland Ohio. I still play but mainly jazz swing and latin music and have my agency-Unique Event Music-which provides music for all occasions.(https://www.uniqueeventmusic.com)

Seeing the published article got me thinking of the many interesting people I have met since first coming to Salema in 1991 and could I write an acceptable article on some of them. I approached Sophie who said let’s see what you can do. Thankfully the first article met with her approval and I’ve managed several since then. It is perhaps worth pointing out that prior to the Tomorrow pieces the only writing I had done had been in the form of Arts Council grant applications/reports or sponsorship proposals. Such proposals are not meant to entertain but to demonstrate that the relevant criteria has been met in order to be deserving of much needed funding.

Writing to entertain/inform therefore is a different kettle of fish but one that I’ve found very satisfying and enjoyable. Thank you, Tomorrow Algarve for the opportunity. Maybe writing these articles will prompt the first Bondesque novel if I can keep off the golf course!!!
