First Stone Laid for Construction of Supported Rental Housing in Vila do Bispo
On May 22nd, the Vila do Bispo Municipal Council held a ceremonial event to mark the laying of the first stone for a new residential building consisting of 29 units designated for supported rental housing. Located in Senhora do Amparo, this symbolic event signifies the beginning of the construction project named Edifício de Habitação e Atividades Económicas (Housing and Economic Activities Building).
The contract for this project has been awarded to António Saraiva & Filhos, Lda., for a total of €4,273,400, plus VAT, with an expected completion timeframe of 540 days. The building, designed with three floors and a basement, will offer a variety of unit types, including T1, T2, and T3 apartments, to address the housing needs identified in the Local Housing Strategy 2021-2031 developed for the Vila do Bispo municipality. This strategy aims to provide a balanced and sustainable approach to housing policy in the region.
The residential units, covering a footprint of 3,500 square meters, will be constructed under regulated cost controls and fall under a collaborative agreement between the Vila do Bispo municipality and the Housing and Urban Rehabilitation Institute (IHRU). This initiative is part of the 1st Right—Support Programme for Access to Housing, which is financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).
The municipal government prioritises housing, and this initiative to develop public rental housing will address various community needs.
The stone-laying ceremony was presided over by Rute Silva, the Mayor of Vila do Bispo, and attended by José Apolinário, President of the CCDR Algarve. Other notable attendees included the 2nd Secretary of the Municipal Assembly, municipal councillors, presidents of local parish councils, and invited entities, as well as Father José Chula from the Vila do Bispo Parish, who blessed the construction.
