“Super Carnival” Hits Loulé Avenue
On February 15, 16, and 17, Loulé’s Carnival returns to the city’s “sambódromo” for three days of festivities at the country’s oldest parade. This year, the theme is “Super Carnival”, featuring iconic superheroes in a parade that offers a playful take on political, social, and sporting issues.
The procession, starting at 3 p.m., will showcase 13 floats, over 600 participants, performance groups representing local associations and social institutions, samba schools, giant puppets, jugglers, and even a DJ, who will bring rhythms from across the Atlantic to the celebration.
The main “superhero” of Loulé’s Carnival will be Zé Povinho, using his superpowers to tackle rising living costs, challenges in the national health system, and the struggle to secure affordable housing.
