Protests Over Insufficient Equipment

Municipality Protests Over Insufficient Equipment at Terras do Infante Hospital

The Lagos City Council has approved a motion raising serious concerns about the lack of essential equipment at Terras do Infante Hospital, part of the Algarve University Hospital Center.

Among the issues highlighted are the absence of a multifunction monitor and an emergency vehicle in the operating room, the lack of a CT scanner in the imaging department, and frequent breakdowns of X-ray and electrocardiograph machines. Additionally, the emergency room’s multifunction monitors are described as outdated.

According to the motion, these deficiencies severely compromise the quality of healthcare provided to the local population. Therefore, the council is urging both the central government and the Algarve Local Health Unit to take immediate action to address the situation.

Nevertheless, the municipality has expressed its willingness to cooperate, as it has done in previous cases, to help strengthen diagnostic medical equipment. City officials stressed their commitment to defending the population’s right to healthcare, as well as ensuring dignity, proper working conditions, and high performance for healthcare professionals.

The document has been forwarded to several health authorities and to the media.
