Portimão Box Cup, BMX National Championship, and International U14 Tournament Headline June’s Sports Calendar in the Municipality
Portimão kicks off June with a dynamic lineup of sports events, highlighted by the Portimão Box Cup 2025, the Portimão International Tournament U14, the Challenge Cup Tournaments, and the National BMX Race Championship.
The monthly schedule released by the Portimão City Council features a diverse range of sports activities open to all audiences throughout June, continuing the tradition of encouraging community participation and engagement.
Among the many featured events are several with established reputations at international, national, and regional levels, attracting athletes from across the globe. These events not only reinforce Portimão’s status as a premier destination for major sports competitions but also significantly boost the local economy and enhance the city’s appeal as a tourist hot spot.
Portimão 2025 International Tournament U14
One of the key events is the Portimão 2025 International Tournament U14, which will take place at the Municipal Tennis and Padel Complex from June 14 to 22. The tournament, part of the European tennis circuit, is organized by the Portimão Tennis and Padel Club with support from the Portuguese Tennis Federation.
Challenge Cup Tournaments
Football takes center stage on June 23 with the Challenge Cup Tournaments, running until June 27 in Portimão.
Matches will be held at Major David Neto Training Center and Mexilhoeira Grande Sports Complex.
Elite teams from Portugal, Spain, France, Canada, USA, South Africa, Thailand, Brazil, and India will compete.
A cultural program before and after the tournament lets participants explore and enjoy the region.
National BMX Race Championship
Another major highlight is the National BMX Race Championship, which will crown Portugal’s top athletes at Parque da Juventude on June 28 and 29. The event is organized by the Portuguese Cycling Federation and the Portimão BMX Club.
World Skateboarding Day
Also on the agenda is the celebration of World Skateboarding Day on June 21, at the newly renovated Parque da Juventude. This open event invites all skateboarding enthusiasts to participate. The following weekend, from June 27 to 29, the “Portimão a Patinar” initiative will take place at the Montes de Alvor Sports Pavilion, organized by the Portimão Hockey Club.
Autódromo Internacional do Algarve
The Autódromo Internacional do Algarve will also play a key role in the June schedule, hosting the Algarve Road Cycling Cup for Cadets and Juniors, as well as a stage of the Regional Championship for Masters and Amateur Elites, both on June 15.
June also marks the end of the sports season for many local clubs and facilities. Celebratory performances will showcase the hard work of the year, including the Final Festival of Senior and Fitness Gymnastics Classes (June 14), the Municipal Dance School’s End-of-Year Show (June 28), gymnastics exhibitions by P’lo Ar Gymnastics Association (June 21), Alvoreiros Sports Association (June 28), and the Portimão Rhythmic Gymnastics Association.
At the city’s Municipal Pool, the “12 Hours Swimming” initiative will be held on June 21, encouraging endurance and community spirit.
Pickleball Tournament
This action-packed month concludes with a Pickleball Tournament on June 29 at the Alvor Sports Complex, part of the Domingos Ativos (Active Sundays) program—a municipal initiative aimed at promoting physical activity and family bonding.
