New tablets for fire-fighters

The four teams of Sapadores Florestais da Associação de Municípios Terras do Infante, received a set of tablets for use in surveillance and first intervention in forest fires, as well as preventive forestry.

Sapadores are part of the national ICNF (Instituto da Conservasão da Natureza e Florestas) and work in the conservation of nature and forests. They assist fire-fighters in the event of a forest fire but their main role is in fire prevention, clearing land and creating fire breaks.

The tablets are equipped with geothermal maps, based on the most recent military charts, which use GPS, to allow Sapadores to know their exact position on the ground, as well as to identify the location of the fire and transmit the information immediately to operational commands.

In the period of preventive forestry, which is now beginning and will extend to about June next year, they will serve the teams to mark the areas of intervention, such as tracks and fire breaks, which will be compiled and transmitted to the civil protection authority.
