Although the flames have been out for some time now, there is still a stench of smoke hanging in the air. It is not until you drive up to the Monchique hills you see the true devastation of what has happened. Great swathes of countryside stripped bare of all colour and life.  A tractor caught in the fire is just a burnt out shell.

After the fire comes life. The shoots of new plants are starting to grow through the charred remains and the power of nature and it determination brings life back to this area.
